THE ROLE
As a Barista at One Academy, you’ll be an important part of creating a welcoming and energetic experience for our members and guests. You’ll prepare high-quality coffee, smoothies, and other beverages, serve café offerings, and provide friendly, engaging service.
Beyond the bar, you’ll help keep the café clean, organized, and well-stocked while supporting daily operations and working closely with the broader One Academy team. This is a hands-on, people-focused role for someone who is friendly, reliable, detail-oriented, and passionate about creating great experiences in a fitness and wellness environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coffee & Beverage Preparation: Prepare and serve coffee, tea, espresso-based beverages, smoothies, and other drinks with consistency, care, and attention to quality
- Customer Experience: Deliver exceptional customer service and create a friendly, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all members and guests
- Food & Bakery Service: Serve freshly baked goods, healthy snacks, and other café offerings while maintaining quality, presentation, and proper food-handling standards
- Cash & POS: Process cash, debit, credit, and other transactions accurately using the café POS system
- Café Operations: Support daily café operations, including opening and closing procedures, restocking, and maintaining appropriate product levels
- Retail Merchandising: Maintain an organized and visually appealing café and retail area, ensuring products are properly stocked and displayed
- Cleanliness & Organization: Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization throughout the café, service areas, equipment, and communal spaces
- Inventory Support: Assist with inventory counts, receiving deliveries, restocking supplies, and communicating inventory needs to the appropriate team member
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with the café and facility teams to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and a consistent member experience
- Member Engagement: Build positive relationships with members and guests and contribute to the welcoming, community-focused One Academy experience
- Health & Safety: Follow all food safety, sanitation, workplace health and safety, and company procedures
- Special Events & Promotions: Support in-gym events, promotions, and other café initiatives as required
- Additional Support: Assist with other duties and ad-hoc tasks as assigned to support the café and overall facility operations
KEY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Flexible availability, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends
- 2+ years of customer service and/or café experience preferred
- Food Handler Certification is an asset
- Previous barista experience is an asset
- Experience using POS systems and café equipment is an asset
- Friendly, approachable, and team-oriented with a strong focus on customer service
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and cleanliness
- Interest in coffee, beverages, health-conscious food options, and the fitness & wellness industry
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs. as required
DIRECT REPORT
As an OA Cafe Barista, you will report directly to the Member Experience & Operations Manager at your location.
JOB LOCATION AND AVAILABILITY
- One Academy Downtown - 474 Wellington Street West M5V 1E3
- Flexible schedule, including morning, evening and weekend shifts preferred
- Facility opener availability is not required but is considered an asset. Candidates who are reliable and have convenient, reliable transportation for early morning shifts (4:30–4:45 a.m.) are preferred
