Role Overview

The Head Coach ( Part Time - Full Time) is the on-site leader responsible for coaching excellence, personal training growth, team development, and daily coaching operations at One Academy in Ottawa. This role combines hands-on coaching with strategic leadership and business accountability.

The Head Coach sets the standard for performance, develops the coaching team, drives personal training revenue, and ensures an exceptional member experience across all programs. This position requires a proactive, experienced leader who can independently manage both coaching delivery and operational execution.

Key Responsibilities 

Coaching Excellence

  • Deliver high-quality group fitness and personal training sessions
  • Coach approximately 15+ classes per week 
  • Maintain 90%+ performance evaluation scores
  • Execute all sessions in alignment with One Academy programming standards
  • Foster an inclusive, motivating, and community-driven training environment
  • Model professionalism, energy, and best-in-class coaching practices

Team Leadership & Development

  • Mentor, support, and develop all coaches through regular feedback and development conversations
  • Conduct weekly class observations and quarterly performance evaluations
  • Lead onboarding and training of new coaches
  • Facilitate coach meetings and ongoing education opportunities
  • Create and manage performance development and improvement plans
  • Maintain consistent communication through internal platforms and team meetings

Operations & Facility Management

  • Oversee scheduling, staffing coverage, and daily coaching operations
  • Manage class schedule updates and substitutions
  • Ensure equipment readiness and facility standards
  • Address operational or coverage issues promptly
  • Maintain reporting, documentation, and administrative systems
  • Attend leadership meetings and collaborate on projects and improvements

Strategy & Member Experience

  • Ensure consistent execution of programming and coaching standards across all sessions
  • Drive member engagement, retention, and community-building initiatives
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the coaching team and leadership
  • Contribute to location performance goals, KPIs, and growth strategies

Personal Training Growth & Client Management

  • Own personal training revenue and growth targets for the location
  • Manage all incoming PT leads, consultations, and onboarding
  • Pair clients with appropriate coaches
  • Track sessions, revenue, and performance metrics; provide weekly reports
  • Mentor coaches on PT sales, programming quality, and client retention
  • Oversee Trainerize programming standards and updates

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years experience in group and/or personal training
  • 2-5 years of management experience
  • Demonstrated leadership and team development skills
  • Strong knowledge of functional training, mobility, and strength & conditioning
  • Industry-recognized certifications
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Business, sales, or operations experience
  • Completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree is required; education in Kinesiology, Business Management, or Exercise Science is preferred
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is a strong asset
